Presented as an elegant design study in 1975, the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT Spider/Cabriolet was conceived by master coachbuilder Pininfarina to evaluate the open-top potential of the sleek Alfetta GT fastback coupe penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Pininfarina redesigned the rear deck into a formal three-box notchback profile and incorporated a discreet, aerodynamic central rollover hoop in a classic "Targa" style to safeguard torsional chassis rigidity. Featuring a bespoke folding soft top and luxurious interior detailing, this one-off prototype showcased Italian styling elegance, remaining a celebrated rarity of 1970s coachbuilding history despite never entering serial production.

Retaining the Alfetta’s sophisticated transaxle architecture, the cabriolet placed the gearbox, clutch, and inboard rear disc brakes in unit with the De Dion rear axle, achieving an ideal 50/50 front-to-rear weight balance. Power came from Alfa Romeo’s celebrated 1,779 cc (1.8-liter) all-aluminum twin-cam (Bialbero) inline-four engine, breathing through twin twin-choke carburetors to produce 122 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. Paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it offered crisp handling dynamics and an estimated top speed near 195 km/h (121 mph).
