LOOKSMART LS544B Bugatti W16 Mistral

The Bugatti W16 Mistral is a mid-engine two-seater roadster manufactured in Molsheim, France, by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. Revealed on August 19, 2022, the Mistral is named after the powerful prevailing winds that gust through the marque's homeland of Southern France.

This hypercar marks the end of an era as it is the last production vehicle to use the iconic W16 engine that was introduced with the Bugatti Veyron in 2005. Contrary to what one might think, the Mistral is not a convertible version of the Chiron but rather a completely separate roadster model.

The W16 Mistral is powered by the definitive version of the 8.0-liter W16 engine with four turbochargers, producing 1,578 horsepower and allowing for a top speed of over 420 km/h. In November 2024, it set the world speed record for a roadster by reaching 453.91 km/h (282 mph).

The design is partially inspired by groundbreaking Bugatti models from nearly a century ago, namely the 1934 Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid Usine, featuring dual headrests and engine air scoops. Only 99 units were produced, all pre-sold at a price of €5 million.
