The Cooper T53 #23 competed in the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in 1962, driven by young American Tim Mayer. In this race, Mayer unfortunately retired on lap 31 due to ignition failure (DNF). The victory that year went to Jim Clark (Lotus), with Graham Hill (BRM) second and Bruce McLaren (Cooper) third. The Cooper T53 proved to be a competitive Formula 1 car over the seasons, but at Watkins Glen, Tim Mayer wasn’t able to finish the race despite his efforts.
