Spark — S5550 | Renault 8 Gordini 1300 No. 23 (Monte Carlo Rally 1967)
A celebrated icon of French motorsport tuned by "Le Sorcier" Amédée Gordini, the R1135 specification of the Renault 8 Gordini debuted the updated 1,255 cc crossflow engine delivering 88 hp DIN, mated to a 5-speed gearbox and distinctive quad headlights. Draped in its unmistakable Bleu France livery with twin white racing stripes, its rear-engine layout produced legendary oversteer characteristics and razor-sharp agility on narrow, slippery Alpine roads.
Carrying start number #23, this works entry was piloted by French rallying talent Jean-François Piot, navigated by co-driver Claude Roure. Masterfully balancing the rear-engined saloon through treacherous snowy and ice-packed mountain passes against heavier, more powerful machinery, the crew delivered an inspired drive to take an impressive 7th place overall (and 2nd in class).
