BMW’s primary weapon in Group 2 competition during the early 1980s, the 323i (E21 generation) derived its pedigree and distinctive soundtrack from a race-tuned 2.3-liter M20 inline-six engine producing over 210 horsepower. Featuring a well-balanced rear-wheel-drive chassis, sharp handling, and responsive steering, it became a favorite among tarmac rally specialists across Europe.

Carrying start number #6, this German saloon was piloted by Belgian sideways ace Patrick Snijers, navigated by co-driver Lambert Peeters. Tackling the fast, bumpy, and notoriously slippery asphalt stages around Huy during the traditional Belgian season finale, the pairing drove a spirited and competitive rally to secure a strong 5th place overall.
