Spark — S8854 | Citroën AX Sport No. 11 (Citroën Sport — Monte Carlo Rally 1988)
Engineered to represent Citroën in Group A's under-1,300 cc division (Class A5), the AX Sport was built around extreme lightness and sharp handling dynamics. Tipping the scales at roughly 720 kg, it was powered by the responsive 1,294 cc TU24 inline-four engine breathing through twin dual-choke Solex carburetors to deliver approximately 125 horsepower, providing the front-wheel-drive hatchback with razor-sharp agility through tight mountain hairpins.
Carrying works number #11, this factory entry was piloted by French rally specialist Maurice Chomat, navigated by co-driver Gilles Thimonier. Demonstrating great consistency across tricky Alpine stages coated with patchy ice, slush, and cold tarmac, the crew brought the lightweight French contender safely home in 12th place overall, claiming 2nd in Class A5.
