Spark — S9177 | Lancia Rally 037 No. 11 (Scuderia Grifone — 4th Rallye Sanremo 1984)
A celebrated icon of Group B motorsport, the Lancia Rally 037 was engineered by Abarth and styled by Pininfarina as an uncompromised rally weapon. Built around a lightweight tubular spaceframe chassis, it featured a mid-mounted 2.0-liter inline-four fitted with a Roots-type Volumex supercharger generating around 325 horsepower in Evolution 2 specification. Despite the rapid emergence of turbocharged all-wheel-drive competitors, its exceptional balance, low center of gravity, and agility made it fiercely competitive across mixed surfaces.
Carrying start number #11 under the prominent banner of Scuderia Grifone (backed by Olio Fiat), this 037 was piloted by rising Italian ace Fabrizio Tabaton, navigated by regular co-driver Luciano Tedeschini. Delivering a fast and remarkably disciplined drive through the grueling asphalt and gravel stages of Tuscany and Liguria, the Genoese pairing outpaced factory entries—including Jean-Pierre Nicolas' works Peugeot 205 T16—to finish in a stellar 4th place overall as the highest-placed privateer crew.
