Kess — KE43062001 | Packard Bayliff Landau Hearse (1960)

A dignified expression of mid-century American bespoke coachbuilding, this formal funeral coach carried the timeless elegance of the Packard name into specialized "professional car" service, closely linked to the legacy of coachbuilder C. Budd Bayliff (Bayliff Custom Automotive). Constructed on an extended long-wheelbase commercial chassis, it features a traditional Landau roof configuration, defined by blind rear quarter panels covered in textured vinyl and accented with signature chrome S-shaped landau bars. Dominated by the iconic vertical Packard tombstone grille and winged mascot, the vehicle offered a lavish rear casket compartment trimmed in stainless steel, chrome rub strips, and heavy drapery.

Under the long hood was a large-displacement American V8 engine designed to deliver substantial low-end torque, unwavering reliability, and whisper-quiet operation during formal funeral processions. Coupled with a smooth heavy-duty automatic transmission, power steering, and reinforced rear commercial-grade suspension, it delivered a smooth, level ride despite its substantial curb weight exceeding 4,500 lbs. Hand-crafted in extremely limited numbers for elite funeral homes, this unique Packard-style Landau hearse stands as a fascinating and solemn piece of classic specialty coachbuilding.
