The Porsche 911 Carrera RSR #62 made a lasting impact at the 1973 24 Hours of Le Mans, delivering a standout performance in the GT class. Entered by French team owner Louis Meznarie, the car was driven by Gijs van Lennep and Herbert Müller – both renowned for their endurance racing skill. This RSR version, a radical evolution of the 911, featured cutting-edge technology for its day: a 2.8-litre engine with over 300 horsepower, along with a lightweight and widened body for enhanced handling. Against fierce competition from prototypes and other rapid GTs, car #62 finished 1st in class and 4th overall, outpacing machines that were often more powerful or technologically advanced.
