Spark — S9175 | Lancia Rally 037 No. 16 (Scuderia Grifone — Rallye Sanremo 1983)
A defining icon of the Group B era and the final rear-wheel-drive machine to capture the World Rally Championship, the Lancia Rally 037 was renowned for its supreme agility on both twisty tarmac and hard-packed gravel. Engineered by Abarth around a central steel spaceframe with lightweight fiberglass bodywork by Pininfarina, it featured a mid-mounted 2.0-liter inline-four fitted with a Roots-type Volumex supercharger delivering over 310 horsepower and instant throttle response.
Carrying race number #16 under the banner of the prominent Scuderia Grifone, this 037 was piloted by rising Italian ace Fabrizio Tabaton, navigated by regular co-driver Luciano Tedeschini. Displaying great pace across the grueling mixed-surface stages of Tuscany and Liguria among the top privateer runners, the Genoese pairing saw their strong rally cut short by an untimely retirement.
