Based on the 996 generation, the GT3 R marked Porsche's transition to water-cooled technology in customer GT racing, instantly establishing itself as the benchmark in the LM GT class powered by its 410-hp 3.6-liter flat-six engine.

Carrying car #75, the GT3 R was driven by young American talent Gunnar Jeannette, alongside Michael Brockman and Mike Lauer. Navigating 24 hours of consistent and disciplined driving around the Sarthe circuit, the trio crossed the finish line in 27th place overall (6th in the LM GT class).
