Homologated in Group B for the under-1,300 cc division (Class B/9), the Citroën Visa 1000 Pistes made history as the first French four-wheel-drive rally car. Developed by Citroën Compétitions and named after its debut win at the 1983 Rallye des 1000 Pistes, it was powered by an all-aluminum 1,360 cc inline-four fed by twin double-choke Weber carburetors producing around 140 horsepower in a chassis weighing just 780 kg. Its compact dimensions and permanent all-wheel drive made it exceptionally nimble on low-grip surfaces.

Carrying start number #7, this works-entered Visa was piloted by French tarmac and winter specialist Jean-Claude Andruet, navigated by co-driver Annick Peuvergne. Taking on the legendary, high-horsepower Group B prototypes (Peugeot 205 T16, Audi Sport quattro, Lancia 037), Andruet extracted maximum performance from the lightweight 4WD hatchback across treacherous snowy and icy Alpine passes. The pair delivered an unforgettable giant-killing drive to finish in an impressive 8th place overall, claiming a dominant victory in Class B/9.
