Spark — S5551 | Renault 8 Gordini 1300 No. 193 (Monte Carlo Rally 1967)
Engineered by "Le Sorcier" Amédée Gordini, the R1135 generation of the Renault 8 Gordini served as the proving ground for a generation of top French rally drivers. Featuring an aluminum crossflow cylinder head over a 1,255 cc inline-four fed by twin twin-choke Weber carburetors, it produced 88 hp DIN in a nimble chassis weighing just around 850 kg. Equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and aggressive quad headlamps, its rear-engine layout delivered punchy traction and exceptional cornering responsiveness on slippery roads.
Carrying start number #193, this factory-entered Gordini was driven by rising French star Jean-Claude Andruet, navigated by co-driver Jean Rabate. Tackling the treacherous, icy mountain passes across the French Alps, the pairing put on a steady and determined drive to safely bring the blue saloon across the finish line in 44th place overall.
