The Joest-Porsche WSC-95 n°7, driven by Michele Alboreto, Stefan Johansson, and Tom Kristensen, won the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans. The race featured a fierce battle with the strong Porsche 911 GT1s and McLaren F1 GTRs. Thanks to the crew’s consistency and taking advantage of mechanical problems encountered by the main rivals, the Joest-Porsche clinched victory by one lap, marking Tom Kristensen’s first Le Mans win—a triumph that would become the start of his record nine victories at the event. The winning chassis was the same as that of the previous year’s winner, a rare feat in Le Mans history.
