A pioneering and unconventional entry in early 1980s motorsport, the Peugeot 505 Turbo Diesel demonstrated the real-world durability and competitive viability of turbocharged diesel technology. Powered by a 2.3-liter Indénor turbodiesel engine paired with a Garrett turbocharger, the rear-wheel-drive saloon blended strong low-end torque with Peugeot's celebrated ruggedness and supple long-travel suspension.

Carrying start number #39, this factory-supported 505 TD was piloted by French endurance specialist Claude Laurent, navigated by co-driver Jacques Marché. Tackling treacherous icy roads and snowy mountain passes across the French Alps, the crew drove a disciplined and consistent rally to reach the finish in 43rd place overall, taking a historic victory in the Diesel class.
