Spark — S5424 | Porsche 911 (964) Carrera RS (1992)
Developed directly from the German Carrera Cup race car, the 964 Carrera RS revived the revered "Rennsport" moniker first immortalized by the 1973 2.7 RS. Built with single-minded devotion to driver involvement and track agility, it shed approximately 130 kg (286 lbs) compared to a standard Carrera 2. Weight reduction measures included ditching the power steering, rear seats, air conditioning, power windows, and soundproofing, alongside the addition of an aluminum front lid, thinner side glass, and minimalist door pull straps to bring curb weight down to roughly 1,220 kg.
At the rear, the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six (type M64/03) featured blueprinted tolerances and revised Bosch Motronic management to produce 260 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque. Fitted with a lightweight single-mass flywheel for razor-sharp throttle response, a strengthened 5-speed G50 manual gearbox, an asymmetrical limited-slip differential, and suspension lowered by 40 mm on stiff uniball bushings, it sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds toward a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph). Finished on bespoke 17-inch cast-magnesium Cup wheels and two-tone leather Recaro bucket seats, it stands as one of the purest driver's 911s ever created.
