LookSmart — LSLM137 | Ferrari 365 P2/3 No. 18 (North American Racing Team / NART — 24 Hours of Le Mans 1966)
Developed for top-tier privateer entrants aiming to challenge Ford's dominance, the Ferrari 365 P2 featured a torque-rich 4.4-liter V12 engine producing 420 horsepower. Clad in updated, low-drag Drogo bodywork for the 1966 season, it combined lightweight Italian handling with impressive top-end speed along the Mulsanne Straight.
Entered by Luigi Chinetti’s North American Racing Team under car #18, this 365 P2 was shared by American driver Masten Gregory and fellow countryman Bob Bondurant. Showing strong early pace against the factory Ford Mk IIs, their race was cut short on lap 88 following a transmission failure (gearbox issue), forcing an early retirement.
