The Porsche 962C n°1, driven by Derek Bell, Hans-Joachim Stuck, and Al Holbert, won the 1986 24 Hours of Le Mans. Despite fierce competition from Jaguar and other Porsche prototypes, the Rothmans team took the lead during the night and steadily increased their advantage. The race was marked by the tragic accident of Austrian driver Jo Gartner, resulting in a long safety car period. At the finish, the Porsche 962C crossed the line 8 laps ahead of the second-placed Porsche 962C No.17 of Brun Motorsport. Porsche secured the top seven places in the final classification.
