LookSmart — LSLM170 | Ferrari 512 S Cuda No. 11 (North American Racing Team / NART — 24 Hours of Le Mans 1970)
Developed to challenge the Porsche 917s in Group 5, the Ferrari 512 S was powered by a roaring 5.0-liter V12 engine delivering 550 horsepower. In short-tail ("Cuda") configuration, it favored downforce and maneuverability, wearing the iconic red bodywork accented by NART's signature blue-and-white center stripe.
Entered by Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team under car #11, this 512 S was shared by Canadian driver Sam Posey and American racer Ronnie Bucknum. Steering clear of the infamous multi-car pileup that decimated the works Ferraris during a torrential night, the duo ran a disciplined, trouble-free race to secure a fantastic 4th place overall (and 3rd in the S 5.0 class).
